One week left in this place!!! 03-18-16

Why hello people of the outside world! How is life? Well thanks for asking, my life is awesome! I’m studying, teaching, speaking Spanish, and studying more every day! I couldn’t think of anything better to be doing though. I’ve had so many experiences that confirm the fact that I am where I need to be. I’ve had so many times in lessons where I am so lost in the lesson, but I just say a prayer in my heart for help and I’m able to figure out what we are talking about and I’m able to contribute to the conversation, and yes I know that the people I’m teaching are probably all members already and yes they understand my bad unconjugated Spanish because they all speak English as well, but it is still interesting how I’m able to understand and speak even with only 4 and a half weeks of practice. This gospel is so perfect because of how many of my questions have been answered through learning more about it. It is awesome because we can still learn more no matter what. There is always progression.
So this week I’ve had a couple good experiences. The first one would be that on Sunday we got a new branch president because our old one had health issues and his time was almost done here. At first I was really upset about it because of how awesome our first one was, but when the new branch president came he was great. He totally opened up to us and he is just a great guy. He is really knowledgable about the Gospel and I’ve learned a lot from him even in this short week.
The second cool experience I had was on Tuesday I had the opportunity to skype a sister in Argentina with my companions. It was cool to finally hear a legit Argentine accent because none of our teachers here speak it because they all served in Mexico or America haha. I’m super excited to learn costellano in a week and a half! It sounds cool, idk how to explain it, but I’ll show you in 2 years I guess lol. Well anyway, this lesson was one of those where I had to say a prayer in my heart, be cause she was hard to understand, but it was amazing because I was able to understand what she was saying and I was able to share the message she needed. Idk how to explain any of this, but it was just awesome. I’m sure any of the people out there that have served missions and had to learn a language know what I’m talking about. I’m just so glad that I’ve received so many amazing blessings already in my life.
The third kinda cool thing that happened was one of the elders in my district had an ingrown toenail so he had to get it removed. Apparently he passed out while they were taking it out and yeah it was a pretty good story. It’s pretty sad when that is the most exciting thing that happens in your week haha. Well yeah fun times.
Sorry this email isn’t too long and doesn’t have many good stories, but give me 2 or 3 weeks and I’ll probably start having some good stories to tell. In Argentina the people will make fun of me for all my mistakes, so now I’ll know what I’m saying wrong hahaha. Well I love you all a ton, and I can’t wait to hear more from all of you! Hope all is well!
Con mucho amor

Hello everybody! How is the real world going?! I’m sure it’s still crazy as ever with all the election stuff and what not… Well here in the MTC it is divertido as always. So let’s see where to begin? Well Sunday was church, which was fun cuz it was a fast Sunday so we were able to share our testimonies in Spanish and what not. The spirit was super strong and it’s just cool that even though we are having sacrament meeting in a little classroom it is still just as powerful as when we do it in a church building. Monday was pretty normal, we have service every morning where we clean our residence hall for an hour and a half. It’s always good cleaning toilets, yeah not really haha, but no it wasn’t too bad. The rest of Monday is pretty much a blur, but so is everything else because time here is super weird… It feels like I’ve been here forever, but at the same time it feels like I’ve been here for a day. Idk how to explain it. Tuesday was a good day because I taught some great lessons and really felt the spirit. We were talking about the gospel of Jesus Christ and how it blesses everyone’s life. We showed an awesome video with our iPads which was super awesome, like I wish I could have an iPad in the mission only for that reason because Mormon messages are super nice while teaching. They invite a spirit that I sure can’t in Spanish hahaha. Pero si these things are awesome.
Well later that night I went to a devotional with everyone that was super awesome. We heard from Elder Pino of the seventy, but it was awesome cuz he spoke Spanish his whole lesson which was super cool cuz I totally understood some of the things he was saying. It is kinda crazy because I can understand most things gospel related, but I can’t understand just typical conversation stuff. Idk how to explain it but yeah I love Spanish it is the best! Something I forgot to add about Tuesday… I got some iodine or something on my shirt from the water filter water bottle thing we got, don’t ask me how cuz I still don’t really know, but anywho I got a Tide-to-go pen to get rid of the stain, but as soon as I used it on my shirt it spread all over my shirt like seriously this stain was like the size of a golf ball, which doesn’t seem like a big deal, but I’ll send a picture of it. Well after some hard work and the magic of modern day technology… I was able to get the stain out which is a good thing cuz it was one of my two long sleeve shirts with a pocket, yes mom I should have listened to you and got shirts with pockets. You can tell me I told you so in 2 years ??.
Well now Wednesday; well the started with my zone hosting which was fun cuz I got to see the behind-the-scenes of  getting people into this place haha. I realized how glad I am that I don’t have to say goodbye to my family and what not again. It was a great experience because I helped get people in here and comfortable with everything. So yeah good times. Thursday I didn’t really do anything notable. I taught an investigator which was fun, we got her to read El Libro de Mormón which was good because she was apparently Catholic and didn’t care about the Book of Mormon the beginning of the week. It was really cool to see the growth that came from the lessons. I just love missionary work. I love putting myself out there and sharing my testimony with others. I just love the look in an investigators eyes when something clicks, I mean given I’m only teaching members I’m 90% sure, but still it is just an awesome experience. I love the growth I’ve seen in myself with Spanish. I’m so much further in Spanish than I was even last week. I can’t wait to learn more and finally be in Argentina where I can teach in real life. I’m defiantly looking forward and I can’t wait to grow! I love you all and I hope you are doing awesome!

Hello outside world! Man the time flies in this place! I can’t believe that I’ve almost been here 3 full weeks! This place is super fun and the spirit is awesome! I am teaching at least one lesson a day which is pretty awesome! They are all totally in Spanish, but it’s awesome because it is forcing me to learn quick! I can now teach pretty much a whole lesson in Spanish and get my point across. I’ve also worked hard at memorizing things and I have the purpose, baptism commitment, and the first vision down, so that is pretty cool! Now I just need to get some more scriptures down! So I am having a super fun time here and I can’t wait to learn more!

As far as stories go this week was one of our teacher’s birthday, so we had a party for her which was super fun. Me and all the Elders stole a bunch of donuts from the cafeteria…oops…but then we wrapped them all up in these sketchy napkins and put them in a brown paper bag we got from our sack lunches. It was super funny cuz it looked like we were seriously smuggling in a bunch of drugs or something… Good times. Well after that I had an awesome lesson with one of our investigators named Marco where we invited him to get baptized and taught the main points of the gospel. He said yes, just that he needed to learn more before he could commit. So that was a good time.  Well other than that I mostly just teach every day the same things and I just sit in class learning Spanish!

Today was also pretty awesome because my whole zone got Ipads which was cool, and is a huge help for teaching and learning!  I know this is where I need to be and I get a confirmation of that seriously every day! I am so excited to finally get to Argentina, and teach real investigators and start doing the work. I hope all of you are doing awesome and I want to hear about what’s goin on! Love y’all! Keep on being awesome!

Helllllloooooo people of the outside world! Man this week has been awesome! The spirit here in the MTC is awesome! No matter where you look you can see the love our Father in Heaven has for each and every one of us! In class we are learning spanish 100% of the time so far. Our Maestros (teachers) only speak spanish in class which makes it hard to get what is going on, but the gift of tongues is REAL brothers and sisters. I have been able to understand just about everything that is going on, but I just don’t know how to say anything back in spanish since my vocabulary is pretty weak. I keep practicing, but hopefully it’ll come soon! Tonight is my first lesson in spanish, and I am kinda freaking out! I know it’ll be awesome though as long as I let the spirit guide me in the lesson.

Well the first day was basically a blur; everything happened so fast I didn’t even have time to think about what was going on. I was kinda in awe the whole time, but we then went and taught some “investigators” which was fun since it was in a huge group of people in my shoes, and it was totally in english so I liked that. We then had dinner which was good since we can eat/drink all the food/drinks we want. I had a great time adjusting with the help of the awesome Elders in my district. We are all pretty close and do everything together; it’s almost like I have 4 other companions.

Yesterday and today went by super fast since we worked super hard on language study yesterday. Luckily we had our p-day on friday, so all day has been really nice to unwind from the stress of everything. I ran which was nice since I haven’t in such a long time. All in all this has been an awesome experience and I am just loving it! I don’t have too much to write about today since I have only been here for 3 days, but next week I am sure I will have much more to talk about. I love you all and I know this church is true!

February 17, 2016 (Josh)

We realized tonight that we never posted Josh’s pictures when he entered the MTC.  Let me just say we shed some tears tonight thinking about how long its been since we’ve seen our boy, and thinking about how long it will be before we see Tyler again.  This is the greatest, toughest thing in the world!!!  🙂
